New perspectives at the English Australia Virtual Conference 2021

10 Sept 2021 I The Queensland Institute

β€œ360 degrees: Reflections, transformation and new perspectives”

This year’s theme for English Australia’s Virtual Conference (above), sets the scene for some great professional learning to be held every afternoon from 13th to 17th September, 2021.

The team at the Queensland Institute (QI) have a long association with the English Australia Conference, either attending or presenting every year since 2012. QI Directors, Philippa Coleman and Fiona Wiebusch, are delighted to be attending this year’s conference once again.

One session the QI team are really looking forward to is at 4:15pm on Wednesday 15th September, titled,

”Action Research: Journeys, reflections and beyond” with Vicki Bos, Bianka Malecka, Rebecca Matteson and Jennifer Wallace.

Vicki Bos, QI Consultant and Director of Teaching in Harmony, will share her insights from participating in the English Australia Action Research program in 2012, in collaboration with Dr Megan Yucel. Their research at that time culminated in a number of key publications that have driven research forward in the area of pronunciation support through music and singing in English-language education.

Over the years, Vicki has also developed a suite of highly practical resources to support English language teachers to engage in Action Research (AR) and facilitated professional development workshops for teachers on this subject with in-service teachers in Australia, Chile and Taiwan.

Some of the other sessions the QI team hope to attend include:

β€œWhat the pandemic has taught us and how CPD programs can become even better”
with Silvana Richardson

β€œConcrete pedagogy for multiple futures”
with Tyson Seburn

”Maximising English communication in the virtual classroom”
with Marzieh Sadeghpour and Janet Bougeois

”Nurturing self-directed learning: building community in the online classroom”
with Becky Steven
