Our Story
The Queensland Institute was founded in December 2020 by award-winning teacher development specialists Philippa Coleman and Fiona Wiebusch, building on two decades of experience leading teacher training at The University of Queensland’s Institute for Continuing & TESOL Education.
In 2020, teacher education underwent a transformative shift as the world transitioned online during a global pandemic. With the support of our global partners, we recognised the urgent need for practical, high-impact training and launched The Queensland Institute—an education consultancy delivering online and in-person teacher training that fosters active learning and digital innovation.
Since then, we have proudly trained 3,000+ teachers and lecturers across 14 countries, collaborating with universities, schools, and Ministries of Education to deliver practical training in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Langauges (TESOL), English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and bilingual education.
Our programs equip global educators to teach in English with confidence and creativity, supporting institutions to achieve their internationalisation goals. With a growing presence in Australia, Asia, Latin America, the UAE, and the Pacific, The Queensland Institute continues to drive change in international education—offering tailored training solutions that transform language education.
