Fiona Wiebusch

Fiona Wiebusch is an award-winning teacher development specialist and international education leader with more than 25 years of experience in language education, professional learning and education management. At The Queensland Institute, she works with governments, universities and schools to design and lead teacher development programs that create meaningful impact for educators and institutions.
Fiona has led professional learning initiatives across 16 countries. Before co-founding QI, she held senior academic management roles in professional learning at RMIT University Vietnam and in teacher training at The University of Queensland’s Institute for Continuing & TESOL Education, where she worked for almost a decade. Her experience as an educator and leader spans Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Vietnam, alongside collaborations with universities and ministries of education across Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Latin America.
A career highlight for Fiona was helping to establish TESOL Talks in 2014. Created through a collaboration between Australian institutions and local universities, the initiative provided free professional development for English language teachers across Vietnam. It has since evolved into RMIT University Vietnam’s Teacher Talks, which continues today. Fiona remains committed to supporting projects that promote sustainable and accessible professional development.
A regular invited speaker at international education conferences, Fiona shares her expertise in teacher development, educational leadership, digital innovation and AI in education, women in international business, and expanding access to education for women and girls.
Closer to home, Fiona enjoys exploring Queensland’s coastline and vibrant café culture with family and friends. She is a ukulele enthusiast and serves on the production team for UQ Voices, a community choir founded by The University of Queensland’s School of Psychology and sponsored by QI since 2021. Open to the wider community, the choir fosters connection and belonging, particularly for international students.
