December 2020 I The Queensland Institute

English Australia Webinar Series for Early Career Teachers

Webinar Summary

QI Director, Fiona Wiebusch, and Rufus James, CELTA Trainer, were invited to present a webinar to support Early Career teachers working in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) in the Australian education sector. Vicki Bos also joined as a co-host for the demonstration session. The webinar was open to participants globally and has been viewed by more than 1500 teachers worldwide.

Abstract

In this interactive webinar, we discuss the notion of what โ€˜activitiesโ€™ are, why we use them in the English-language classroom and some common challenges teachers face when setting up activities. Participants will have an opportunity to consider their current approach, review the stages of giving effective instructions and evaluate a variety of approaches to monitoring learner progress during and after activities. The presenters will reference TESOL principles, share personal experiences and key resources that have proven to be useful when leading activities in their own classroom contexts.

Facilitated by

Fiona Wiebusch and Rufus James with special guest, Vicki Bos.
