Professor in the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Science

I can highly recommend the online CLIL training to all lecturers because the techniques I learned mean my students are much more active in my lessons than ever before...

As a Professor in the School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences at UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista) Brazil, I was fortunate enough to join the online CLIL training facilitated by Philippa in September 2020.

The training was an effort of UNESP to provide a group of professors the opportunity to adapt their face-to-face lectures and tutorials for an online environment using English as a mean of instruction. Although many had some experience teaching online courses, Philippa introduced us to a range of effective teaching strategies and supported us as we practised implementing new, interactive learning activities.

As a result, I adapted many of my lectures and I am using those same activities to encourage my students to interact more. I also noticed them more interested and active in class. They engage with me and each other! It was also great to realise that the same active learning techniques are equally applicable in the physical lecture theatre as well.

It’s also given me the confidence to continue to facilitate active learning - in any learning environment.
