As part of our mission to empower global educators, QI responds to international development challenges to create practical solutions that progress positive change.

We work with partners in international development to build capacity in language education, create sustainable change and empower women and girls.

Some of the challenges we’ve assisted partners to overcome include:

  • Responding to school-based language education policy demands

  • Providing equitable access to teacher education and training for women and girls

  • Accessing learning and teaching resources to support bilingual education

  • Minimising teacher isolation through opportunities for group professional development

Practical and accessible solutions

We believe teaching is half learning. We work with our partners to identify goals, co-build programs and demonstrate practical strategies. QI have implemented training programs for teachers and staff demonstrating successful approaches to applying Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) to support local language development and English-language education.

Our training programs are designed to be highly practical and inclusive to suit the needs of all educators. Our customised online training programs allow attendees to join from campus or home. We use freely available resources and strategies to encourage educators to adapt existing materials and ensure an accessible learning experience by demonstrating open-access digital apps and resources.

Setting up sustained change

In everything we do, we promote learning by doing. We implement a Community of Practice model of training to courses, enabling attendees to share findings and sustain ongoing development in their own teaching contexts.

We assist educators around the world to develop the skills required to progress toward sustainable development goals. We connect educators within our Global Educator Network (GenQI) of alumni through special webinar events, building relationships that extend beyond the classroom.

Since our inception in December 2020, The Queensland Institute is proud to have supported projects in Southeast Asia and Latin America, including:
