Innovating Instructional Design in Vietnam
Supporting Foundation Studies and Pathway Programs in Higher Education
26 February 2025 I The Queensland Institute
RMIT Educators joined us from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
What strategies help students succeed in an English-medium classroom while adjusting to university life?
This was the focus of our latest workshop series with RMIT University Vietnam, where we worked with Foundation Studies educators to explore practical, evidence-based strategies for delivering effective instruction and designing accessible learning materials in English Medium Instruction (EMI) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) settings.
Since 2021, The Queensland Institute has collaborated with RMIT Vietnam to deliver professional development programs tailored to the needs of university pathway educators. This February, we launched Teaching Strategies to Support Student Learning, a hands-on online workshop series designed to help teachers refine their instructional clarity, materials design, and student engagement techniques.
Spanning three interactive sessions, this series focused on:
Effective Instructional Techniques – Helping educators refine oral and written instructions to support student understanding.
Adapting Learning Materials – Applying CLIL principles to enhance accessibility and engagement.
Collaborative Lesson Design – Encouraging peer-led discussions to refine instructional approaches.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and peer feedback sessions, using digital platforms like Zoom, Padlet, and Miro to enhance collaboration. By the final workshop, educators shared their own discipline-specific adaptations, reinforcing their innovation in creating engaging and accessible learning materials.
This ongoing collaboration with RMIT Vietnam reflects our commitment to supporting educators with evidence-based strategies that enhance student learning outcomes in university pathway programs. We look forward to continuing our work together and expanding professional development opportunities for educators across the region.
