Showcasing Bilingual Education in Action in Taiwan

QI Alumni Lead the Way: Sharing Experience

26 May 2025 I The Queensland Institute

QI alumna, Ms Angela Tang, teaches in Taiwan.

At The Queensland Institute (QI), we’re always thrilled to hear from our alumni—especially when they’re out there making a meaningful impact in bilingual education in their own classrooms.

This month, we’re proud to highlight two outstanding educators from Taiwan: Ms Yi Ju Chang (Ruru) and Ms Ya Jhu Tang (Angela).

Ruru and Angela completed their Teacher Enrichment program with QI in 2024. They recently opened their performing arts and music classrooms to visiting teaching colleagues in Taiwan, offering a window into what high-impact bilingual education looks like in practice. These open classrooms not only showcased their creativity and commitment but also demonstrated practical strategies aligned with Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 policy.

From implementing flexible seating to using digital tools like Padlet, their lessons were a lovely mix of structure and student-centred learning. It is clear that their students were engaged, supported, and enjoying the learning process.

Lesson Highlights

Some classroom highlights we loved included:

  • Creative visual aids and clear task instructions

  • Establishing lesson goals/missions

  • Language scaffolds to support bilingual learners

  • The use of English memes for classroom management (so fun!)

  • The video text featuring Chris Hemsworth

Reflecting on Ruru and Angela’s classes, QI Co-Founder, Fiona Wiebusch, shared,

"Seeing our alumni bring their authentic selves to the classroom, generously sharing their practice with others, is a true joy. We feel incredibly honoured to be a small part of their professional journey."

Moments like these in the classroom exemplify what we aim to foster through our professional development programs—confidence, creativity, and community in bilingual teaching.

At The Queensland Institute, we’re on a mission to empower global educators to transform language education—helping teachers deliver their subjects in English with clarity, confidence, and creativity.

We are delighted to be working with Taiwanese teachers again in 2025, together with our university partners at National Taiwan Normal University.
