In Loving Memory of Melika Stannard

Remembering our beloved friend and colleague

April 2024 I The Queensland Institute

Melika Stannard (centre) with the QI team, 2022.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Melika Stannard, on 16 March 2024.

Melika was a wonderful teacher educator, and cherished member of The Queensland Institute family, who contributed significantly to our mission to empower global educators.

Melika was not only a founding member of our training team but also an inspiring friend and mentor to many. From Myanmar to Chile, Japan to Vietnam, Taiwan to Kiribati, UTAS to UQ, and with us at QI, Melika displayed a genuine care and compassion for students and teachers everywhere she went. Her passion for nurturing the next generation of teachers was impressive, and her creativity in curriculum design and dedication to assessment development set a standard of excellence that we will continue to strive towards.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Melika's family and loved ones. Her legacy lives on in classrooms around the world and most certainly in our hearts and minds. We remember her with fondness in the wonderful lessons she made, the laughter she shared, the aroma of a soy chai latte, and the warm embrace of a trusted friend.

We invite you to review our memory book, which includes photos from throughout Melika’s career and messages from the gathering held at Orleigh Park in Brisbane on 27 March 2024, honouring the life of an extraordinary educator and our dear friend.

Vale, Melika. We love you.
