Hong Kong: 3rd International Conference on English Across the Curriculum

14 May 2021 I The Queensland Institute

Emerging perspectives on Content and Language Integrated Learning.

This month, the QI team will be attending the 3rd International Conference on English Across the Curriculum in Hong Kong (20-21 May, 2021):

“Committed to presenting multiple perspectives on English Across the Curriculum (EAC) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), the conference is set to expand the scholarship in this increasingly important aspect of education. Academics and educators from universities and schools around the world are welcome.”

Many of QI’s own professional development programs in CLIL draw on Plenary Speaker, Professor Do Coyle’s (2012) seminal text, C.L.I.L. Content and Language Integrated Learning. Her book draws on the author’s early experience of CLIL in primary and secondary schools across Europe and summarises the theory which underpins the teaching of a content subject through another language and discusses its practical application. The QI team are looking forward to attending Professor Coyle’s plenary presentation titled, “Curriculum-making through a pluriliteracies approach: learners and teachers as designers of bilingual learning” on Thursday 20th May at 16:30-17:30pm, Hong Kong time.

The Queensland Institute Pty Ltd has a strong connection to teacher education in Hong Kong. Having worked with undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) for more than a decade, our e-Immersion programs have increasingly incorporated a focus on CLIL in recent years. In 2020, we were delighted to see the release of HKU Assistant Professor Yuen Yi Lo’s book on Professional Development of CLIL Teachers. Her book investigates theoretical models of professional development in CLIL, including the value of cross-curricular collaboration for teachers, and the efficacy of CLIL professional development programs and the need for further research in the field.

The Queensland Institute Pty Ltd are proud to continue our partnership with the University of Hong Kong to facilitate our e-Immersion program with the Faculty of Education again this May-July, 2021.
